The scientific director of CiTIUS, Senén Barro, chairs the advisory committee of the new Ideas Lab in artificial intelligence of the Spanish Agency for the Supervision of Artificial Intelligence (AESIA), presented today in A Coruña as a key initiative to strengthen Spain’s leadership in the development of trustworthy AI.
The creation of the lab places Galicia at the center of the debate on the future of AI in Spain
The new body brings together around thirty leading specialists from the academic, institutional, and business spheres with the aim of analyzing the main challenges associated with the deployment of AI and providing recommendations in areas of high social impact. In the words of Senén Barro, the Ideas Lab “acts as the intelligence of artificial intelligence itself,” while its advisory committee provides “the human and humanistic perspective necessary to ensure trustworthy development oriented toward the common good.”
Its main lines of work include the protection of women’s dignity in the face of algorithmic biases, the fight against disinformation, children’s digital safety, and the transformation of the labor market, including phenomena such as deepfakes or the automation of propaganda.

During the event, at which the details of this new space for reflection were unveiled, the Minister for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service, Óscar López, underlined Spain’s aspiration to position itself at the international forefront in the regulation of artificial intelligence, advocating a model that combines innovation with democratic safeguards.
CiTIUS’s involvement in this initiative consolidates its role as a leading player in promoting ethical, reliable, human-centered AI, in line with the main European frameworks for technological oversight. In this context, the minister announced that Spain will host at the end of April the first meeting of the United Nations AI Scientific Panel, reinforcing its international positioning as one of the key countries in AI governance. CiTIUS (a center co-funded by the European Union through the Galicia Feder Program 2021–2027) is thus situated in one of the environments where the future of AI is being shaped on a global scale.
