Job offer: research contract for the completion of a doctoral thesis
The Computer Graphics and Data Engineering (COGRADE) group of the Research Centre in Intelligent Technologies (CITIUS) at the University of Santiago de Compostela is interested in incorporating a researcher into the work team of the national project MAGISTELA. The work carried out during the term of the contract will be aimed at the defense of a doctoral thesis in the field of Smart Cities.
Description and Research Objectives
The research will focus mainly on the efficient implementation of techniques for interactive exploration and intelligent analysis (ML) of large volumes of geospatial (Big Data) data, and on their application to address research challenges arising from the MAGISTELA project: large-scale geoprocessing for exploratory and learning-based analysis. This project is funded by the 2019 RETOS call of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (PID2019-105221RB-C42) and has a duration of 3 years.
The candidate, if not already holding a master’s degree, undertakes to enroll in a master’s degree in computer science (valid topics: Artificial Intelligence, High Performance Computing, Big Data, Statistics, or similar), with the aim of obtaining the degree in a maximum of one year, and to be able to defend their doctoral thesis at the end of the third year.
Expected Skills and Knowledge
From the point of view of social competences, we are looking for a proactive person, with a high capacity for analysis and problem solving, with the ability to work in a team and good oral and written communication skills, as well as an upper-intermediate level of English (to be able to attend courses, present results and undertake international research stays). From the technical point of view, for this position it will be considered (although it is not a requirement) very positively to already hold a master’s degree in the computer science area, as well as technical knowledge of algorithms and data structures, statistics and machine learning.
It will be considered very positively to have a good academic record that allows the candidate to apply competitively for predoctoral research grants, both regional (Galicia) and national (FPU).
Position Characteristics
We offer a contract with a duration of 1 year, renewable, and a gross monthly salary of €1,575.02 (14 payments), with an expected start date, after the public selection process in competitive concurrence, between December 1 and 15, 2021.
The researcher will have an ordinary working day of 35 hours per week and a summer working day (June, July and August) of 30 hours. The position will facilitate work–life balance and the selected person will have 10 personal days in addition to their ordinary vacation leave. The possibility of partial or occasional teleworking could be considered.
