HPC Application Specialist - High Performance Computing

NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a High Performance Computing Application Specialist for its HPC Center. This position will work as part of a team to provide researchers and faculty with user support, training, day to day assistance for the installation and configuration of HPC and data intensive applications to enable their successful use of the HPC Center’s resources.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computational Science or Engineering

  • Relevant certificate/training in parallel programming and parallel libraries (eg. MPI, OpenMP).

  • Relevant certificate/training in IT Service Management (ITIL).

  • Relevant certificate/training in LinuxSysAdmin (eg. RHCSA or RHCE)

  • Relevant certificate/training in HPC schedulers and workload managers (eg. Slurm)

    Experience Requirements

  • Experience in installing and managing applications and tools in HPC environments

  • Experience Supporting HPC Users in higher education or research institutions

  • Experience with standard scientific and statistical packages (e.g. MATLAB, STATA etc.)

  • Experience with large parallel scientific applications (e.g. Amber, ROMS, HiRAM etc.)

  • Experience with HPC Operational support operations and ticketing system (e.g. Service Now)

  • Strong programming skills in the following languages: C, C++, FORTRAN

  • Programming skills using scripting languages like Unix shell, Python, Php or Perl

  • Programming skills using parallel libraries (e.g. MPI, OpenMP)

  • Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong presentation and report writing skills

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills are essential

  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities in an effective and professional manner

  • Experience with HPC resource managers and schedulers (e.g. Slurm, Moab etc.)

  • Experience With Bioinformatics Applications (e.g. Blast etc.)

  • Experience in installing and managing applications and tools in HPC environments

  • Knowledge of scientific analysis, statistical methods and computer related research design and statistical analysis

  • Management of large data sets

  • Knowledge of Linux And Windows System administration
