Junior Researcher investigating aesthetic applications of AI to VR

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Junior Developer/Researcher to join our Intangible Realities Laboratory at CiTIUS | Centro Singular de Investigación en Tecnoloxías Intelixentes da USC in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. In this role, you will explore new representational approaches in virtual reality and how they can be combined with machine learning and the recent advances in artificial intelligence approaches to develop compelling new aesthetic approaches within immersive digital environments. The ideal candidate will have at least a Master's degree in Computer Science, Digital Art, or a related field, with previous experience developing new VR approaches and a keen interest in learning about machine learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Explore new representational approaches in virtual reality and develop novel VR applications and approaches.
  • Integrate machine learning and artificial intelligence approaches into VR environments to develop new aesthetic approaches which engage participants in multi-user environments.
  • Collaborate with our interdisciplinary team of scientists, artists, and developers.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in VR, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
  • Regular presentations to IRL members to share ideas, outline progress, and solve problems.
  • Engagement with other AI researchers at CiTIUS to explore new ways to combine of AI and VR within real-time scientific simulation frameworks.
  • Ability to learn new technical and software frameworks to carry out creative projects.
  • Work closely with other team members to develop high-quality software and research outputs.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Digital Art, or a related field.

  • Proven experience developing new VR approaches and applications.

  • Experience with game engines such as Unity3D or Unreal Engine.

  • Strong programming skills in C#, Python, or other computing languages.

  • Familiarity with machine learning tools and concepts, and enthusiasm to learn more.

  • Ability to work independently towards pre-defined goals: to devise, review and deliver complex projects.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team.

  • Proficient English Speaker.

Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with machine learning software frameworks like TensorFlow or pyTorch.
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling and animation software such as Maya or Blender.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Interest in exploring the frontiers of science, art, and technology.
