Summer course "Language Technologies: Languages in the Digital Society and Economy".

The Proxecto Nós, integrated by Xunta de Galicia, the ILG and CiTIUS, is organising a summer course entitled "Language Technologies: Languages in the digital society and economy"

The course will take place at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería del Campus Vida of the University of Santiago de Compostela, in a 100% on-site format, between the 12th and 15th of July. The deadline for registration is until 1 July.

With the aim of disseminating the multiple opportunities offered by language technologies, this Summer Course will deal in an informative and accessible way with the multiple possibilities offered by language technologies and artificial intelligence for the creation of applications and services for everyday use based on languages. The scientific foundations of artificial intelligence and language technologies will also be presented, together with the technological bases of the applications and resources that add value to them. The presentations will be made in an accessible, attractive and also practical way, highlighting the latter practical component by holding workshops for the creation of some of these resources. Some of the various **existing initiatives at all levels (governmental, academic and business) will also be presented, which have an impact on the interest of all languages in their presence in society, in the economy and, therefore, in the digital world. Some representative examples are the Proxecto Nós for galician, the Projecte AINA for catalan, the plan Gaitu for euskera, the PERTE en español: nueva economía de la lengua for Spanish and the other co-official languages of Spain, or European initiatives such as the European Language Equality or CLARIAH projects.

The main objective of the course is to disseminate the many possibilities currently offered by artificial intelligence and natural language technologies for the creation of applications and services for everyday use, such as voice synthesis and recognition systems, automatic translation and virtual assistants, among others. We will have leading experts who will present the scientific foundations of artificial intelligence and language technologies, together with the technological bases of the applications and resources that add value to them. The course programme includes lectures, round tables and workshops with a practical and applied approach.

This activity is addressed to the general public, and especially to people interested in the applications and services of artificial intelligence and language technologies. Non-exclusively, secondary school students, university students (in the fields of technology, humanities and social sciences) and people who use tools based on language technologies in their professional activity.
