Intelligent systems and environments

Intelligent systems address complex problems that exceed the possibilities or make the use of other systems impractical. An intelligent system excels in its ability to perceive and act over its environment, analysing it to provide rational behaviour to achieve its goals, including communicating with humans and other systems in the process.

Intelligent systems often require capabilities such as computer vision, natural language recognition, complex interaction with other systems or interpretation of information from increasingly large heterogeneous data sources. In addition, they make intensive use of multiple AI techniques such as machine learning, neural networks, explainable AI and search and planning algorithms among others.

These systems are applicable to a number of increasingly varied environments including the Internet of Things (IoT), Industry 4.0, smart cities, e-health and robotics including smart cars and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
