Software Integration in the Development of a Spatial Data Grid Prototype based on Metadata
We propose in this paper the development of a Data Grid and its deployment in the Retelab Project. Retelab is a virtual laboratory focused on the Ocean research community. The main goal of this project is to build an easy tool for the Ocean researchers where the computer skills are minimum or not necessary. Following these objectives, this paper shows the design and implementation through software integration of a Data Grid functional prototype. Such a prototype has been deployed as a portlet in the Retelab web portal adding its new functionalities. Retelab Data Grid will allow the users to search through a virtual Database focused on data attributes, in which the users do not need to know where or how data are stored. The users can upload their data and label them with their metadata. Thus, it is a way to share information through the Ocean research community. This prototype provides different systems for analyzing and visualizing geoscientific data stored in Rote lab. We developed procedures to use data as parameters in running jobs in the Grid system and to add job outputs to the Data Grid.
