Álvaro Ordóñez Iglesias

I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) and a member of the CiTIUS research center. Prior to my current role, I held a postdoctoral position at the University of A Coruña (UDC) as a Juan de la Cierva Fellow.

Research Interests

My research specializes in the processing of multi- and hyperspectral remote sensing images through high-performance computing (HPC). I focus on:

  • Developing high-accuracy automatic registration and image segmentation algorithms that exploit spectral information.
  • Creating parallel and distributed computing solutions for real-time image processing.
  • Leveraging commodity hardware, including GPUs, multicore CPUs, and distributed cluster systems.

Academic Background

I earned my PhD in Computer Science in 2021 from USC. My academic foundation also includes a Master’s in Big Data Technologies (2016) and a Bachelor’s in Computer Science (2015) from USC.
