Dr. Maarouf received the Maîtrise Degree in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, and Teaching Diploma in Sciences from the Lebanese University (Lebanon) in 2002, and the Ph. D. Degree in Computer Science (with highest honors) from the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) in 2018.

Currently, Dr. Maarouf is a postdoctoral researcher at CITIUS, and a Researcher and System Analyst at Plexus Tech (Spain). His research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Knowledge Representation, Biomedical Ontologies and Terminologies, Facial and Emotion Recognition, and Machine Learning.

In addition to his academic degrees, he possesses many international IT certificates; such as: Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT), Holistic Information Security Practitioner (HISP), Internet and Computing Core Certification Authorized Instructor (IC³), MTA Windows Server Administration, Security, Networking, Database Administration, Windows Operating System, Web Development, Windows Development, Software Development (C# & VB.NET), Microsoft Office Specialists Master,  International Computer Driving License (ICDL), and MS Azure Data Fundamentals .

Dr. Maarouf participated in many European projects; such as: LHEM, ELEGANT and ACCORDION. He worked as a research assistant in the KEAM lab at the University of Santiago de Compostela from September from 2015 until July 2018. He also worked at the Modern University for Business and Science as the coordinator of the Computer Science department from January 2012 until August 2015. In addition, he held the positions of a full-time lecturer from January 2004 until August 2015, an IT specialist, a Database and Software Developer, and the Administrator of Certiport and Microsoft testing center from January 2004 until December 2011.
