Pablo Ruiz Fabo

I've been a senior lecturer at the Department of Language Technologies and Digital Humanities of the University of Strasbourg since 2018 and am currently developing a research project at CiTIUS, funded by a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship.

I got my PhD in Language Sciences at Paris Sciences et Lettres University (PSL) in 2017. The area was Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications to Digital Humanities use cases, working on technologies like entity linking, proposition extraction and how they help structured corpus navigation.

Since then, I have worked on NLP applications to literary analysis (poetry and theater) and to the automation of digital corpus development. In Strasbourg, I led the MeThAL project, which created the first large public electronic corpus for theater in Alsatian, and tools for automating its encoding in the TEI format. I also led the Thealtres project, which compared social variables of 19th century theater characters in Alsatian and its source traditions (German and French).

Developing resources for the analysis of less commonly studied traditions increases their digital visibility and adds variety to Computational Literary Studies. The COMPEL project, which I am carrying out at CiTIUS, focuses on the computational analysis of literature in Galician and attempts to promote smarter access to cultural heritage in this language.
