PhD student position available at CiTIUS on Scaling and Variability of 3D Tunneling Field Effect Transistor Nanowires Using Si, Ge and III-V Materials

CiTIUS is part of the Campus Vida of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), which has been acknowledged as one from the eight International Campuses of Excellence by the Spanish Ministries of Education, Science and Innovation and it aspires to become 1 of the top 100 best biocampuses worldwide. CiTIUS, created as one of the fundamental pieces of the research strategy of Campus Vida, undertakes almost all the research activities of USC in the area of Information Technologies. Currently, the CiTIUS hosts 32 senior researchers, which have been selected by an external scientific advisory board, and a total of 100 researchers. Since its creation in 2011, CiTIUS researchers have published more than 100 JCR papers and participated in more than 60 R&D projects, most of them in collaboration with the industry sector. CiTIUS researchers have also promoted 3 new spin-offs and 2 other entrepreneurship initiatives are incubating.

SCOPE

The research on modelling and simulation of advanced electronic devices, using different numerical techniques implemented in one, two and three dimensions, is being held in our group for more than 15 years. Specifically, the study of fluctuations and material variations using drift-diffusion and Monte Carlo simulators for semiconductor devices and the implementation and optimisation of our simulators for use in new computational infrastructures is our main area of expertise.

The work proposed will be engaged within an Spanish national project involving the multidimensional modelling of next-generation semiconductor nanodevices, the optimisation of numerical algorithms and the development of tools for the efficient handling of simulation data.

  • A master degree in one of the aforementioned disciplines
  • Basic knowledge on semiconductor physics, device physics and characterisation techniques
  • Good academic record
  • Good computational skills
  • Very good English level

GENERAL CONDITIONS

  • The selected candidate would start the PhD in our group with a contract according to University regulations
  • The contract will be for 1 year, renewable for 1 additional year. During this period, CiTIUS will support the selected candidate on finding funding for his/her PhD through PhD Fellowships (for a 4 years period)
