"Ao sol" (session XV): 'Poetry and Photography' | Guest: Manuel Vilariño
Feel, think or photograph. At the convent table or through mountains and oceans, a poetic vision unfolds that travels through time and space. Poetry and photography present themselves as an indivisible whole, in secret complicity, eternally linked: two wings of the same bird that determine a common itinerary, an oceanic feeling capable of manifesting anywhere, at any time.
In this dialogue between word and image, the work of Manuel Vilariño occupies a unique place. Awarded the National Photography Prize in 2007, he is considered one of the most prominent figures in contemporary Spanish photography. His work has been the subject of countless solo exhibitions in museums and galleries across Europe and America, and he represented Spain at the 52nd Venice Biennale.
Also a creator of a solid poetic production, he has published titles such as Ruins at Waking (2011), Peregrinatio (2012), Unter der Glocke der Nacht (2014), Sleepless Animal (2018) and Eloge of the Confinement (2022). His photographic work is part of prestigious public and private collections internationally, thus consolidating a trajectory in which poetry and photography always walk together.
