Conference: 'Intelligent systems for personalised medicine'

While it is widely recognised that a "one-size-fits-all" approach is not an optimal solution, current healthcare practice often ignores patients values, preferences and context, leading to treatments that are not tailored to their individual realities. In this context, the use of intelligent systems to support physicians and patients in shared decision-making appears as an attractive alternative to improve efficiency and achieve a truly personalised experience. This approach has become feasible thanks to the emergence of mobile devices capable of generating data related to the health status of patients, recent advances in artificial intelligence and their integration in the context of so-called cyber-physical systems, which allow the development of a personalised solution for each user. In this talk, we will discuss the challenges and opportunities of intelligent systems to address open problems in healthcare with a particular focus on two of the most prevalent chronic diseases: diabetes and hypertension.
