Doctoral Meeting: 'Conspiracies: the interface between disinformation and hate speech on multilingual social environments'
Conspiracist narratives use the threat of an omnipotent, evil group to spread hateful narratives, causing distrust in society. We look at the structure of these narratives by analyzing topics, emotions, and networks of entity collocations of conspiracist Telegram channels in different languages. We find evidence that conspiracies are characterized by dense connections between actants and an angry tone, pointing towards a highly emotional narrative with a high potential of creating and hypothesizing connections between entities.
