CiTIUS and CESGA jointly celebrate the International Girls in ICT Day

Galician technology experts will share their experiences throughout an interactive colloquium, while students will have the chance of exploring the digital world in a unique educational day on the USC campus.

On the 25th of April, the International Day of Girls in ICT will take place, a global celebration aimed at motivating new generations of girls and young women to consider pursuing studies and careers in information and communication technologies.

The event will span a full day and will feature various activities. In the morning, there will be a videoconference symposium, with the participation of four professionals from Galicia involved in the technology field. They will each share their personal experiences, discuss the areas they work in, and explore how technology can positively impact various aspects of life in an informative and detailed manner. Primary and secondary school students will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with the speakers.

The four Galician professionals participating in the symposium are Antía Fernández López (Telecommunications Engineer with a Master's in Telematic Teaching from UVigo and an MBA from UIE); Lorena Fernández Fernández (Mathematics graduate from USC with a Master's in Industrial Mathematics from UVigo); Olalla Rama García (Computer Science graduate from the University of A Coruña with a Master's in Cybersecurity); and Noemí Basanta Cheda (Architecture graduate from the Higher Technical School of Architecture of A Coruña, specializing in Urban Planning).

In the afternoon, from 17:00 to 19:00, the 'Digital Explorers Route' will take place: a dynamic and educational activity where students from the final years of primary school and secondary school in the Santiago de Compostela area will have the opportunity to learn about the activities being carried out at the Supercomputing Centre of Galicia (CESGA) and the Singular Research Centre in Intelligent Technologies of USC (CiTIUS). The activity will involve a tour of the USC campus between both centres, allowing students to discover the work of five outstanding women scientists, both historical and contemporary, in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) field. The route is designed as an exploration of the technological advances made possible by women in the field of ICT, accompanied and guided by experts from CESGA and CiTIUS.

The places are limited to 100 participants, and it is necessary for minors to be accompanied by an adult to participate in the activity (the same person can be responsible for multiple participants).
