CiTIUS gathers in Santiago the research community in the area of Software Engineering and Software Development Technologies through SISTEDES 2022

Until the 7th, this congress will bring together some 250 members of the most important research groups of Spanish universities, as well as students and representatives of companies and the public sector.

The state congress of the Software Engineering and Software Development Technologies Society (SISTEDES) kicked off this Monday in Compostela. It is an annual meeting focused on three major areas of computer science: Software Engineering and Databases, Science and Engineering Services, and Programming and Languages. The conference, organized by the Computer Graphics and Data Engineering group of the Singular Center for Research in Intelligent Technologies of the USC (CiTIUS), will bring together until Wednesday, September 7, 250 members of the most important research groups of Spanish universities, as well as students and representatives of companies and the public sector.

The opening ceremony was presided over by the Rector Antonio López, who highlighted the role of CiTIUS as "an example of research in the field of intelligent technology research". He also dedicated part of his speech to demand "gender perspective in STEM disciplines", a field in which "we have a long way to go", he said. In the same line, the president of the organizing committee of the congress and professor of the USC, José M. Cotos Yáñez, who also stressed the need to "give visibility to women in this field," said. In this sense, the exhibitions that can be visited at the congress, entitled 'Pioneras científicas' and 'Científicas cerca de ti', will help to achieve this goal. The latter, an initiative of CiTIUS itself, has a double objective: on the one hand, to inspire and contribute to awaken new research vocations among girls and young women who had not yet decided their academic future; on the other hand, the exhibition also seeks to promote and disseminate the scientific work carried out by CiTIUS as a reference research center, especially highlighting the role of women in the field of technology.

The opening ceremony was attended by the president of the Provincial Council of A Coruña, Valentín González Formoso; the president of SISTEDES and professor at the University of Seville, Antonio Ruiz Cortés; the vice-president of SISTEDES, Juan Hernández; and the general manager of strategy of Plexus Tech, Silvia Fraga.

Throughout SISTEDES 2022, a total of 154 scientific papers will be presented to the research community, which responded with growing interest to the meeting, increasing participation with respect to other editions, both in number of registered attendees and proposals submitted.

The symposium includes three plenary lectures by Robert Feldt, Professor of Software Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg (Sweden); Uwe Zdun, Professor of Software Architecture at the Faculty of Informatics of the University of Vienna (Austria); and Manuel Hermenegildo, Professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and Distinguished Researcher at the IMDEA-Software Institute.

The SISTEDES Conference

This meeting, which has been held uninterruptedly since 2001, is an essential meeting point at national level between the Spanish community working in the areas of Software Engineering and Software Development Technologies.

It is a space for sharing and scientific exchange, under the umbrella of the Society of Software Engineering and Software Development Technologies (SISTEDES); a non-profit association created with the main objective of contributing to the scientific and technological development at state level in the area of Software Engineering and Software Development Technologies, as well as to promote research, innovation and technology transfer between academia and business, for the advancement of these disciplines.

In the 2022 edition, the organizing committee is composed of researchers José M. Cotos Yañez, José R. Ríos Viqueira, Manuel Lama Penín and José La. Taboada González, with the collaboration of the rest of the members of the group and the support staff of the CiTIUS of the USC. The event is also supported by the Consellería de Turismo de la Xunta de Galicia and the Diputación de A Coruña.
