First institutional visit of AESIA to CiTIUS
Ignasi Belda, director of the Spanish Agency for Artificial Intelligence Supervision (AESIA), visited the center along with his team, in an event that marks the first institutional meeting between the pioneering body in Europe and the reference center for AI in Galicia.
The CiTIUS received yesterday the first institutional visit from the Spanish Artificial Intelligence Supervision Agency (AESIA), a pioneering organization in Europe promoted by the Government of Spain to ensure the ethical and safe use of artificial intelligence.
Its director, Ignasi Belda, attended accompanied by his team for a day that began with a general presentation of the center by the scientific director of CiTIUS, Senén Barro, in which the deputy director, Paula López, also participated. Throughout the visit, the delegation was accompanied by the two heads of the center, who guided the AESIA members through the various stops scheduled in the visit program.
The committee showed interest in the main ongoing projects, in areas such as robotics, machine learning, augmented reality, and language technologies. There was also particular interest in the presentation of notable initiatives such as NUMADELIC or HYBRIDS, which combine cutting-edge technological research with cross-sectional approaches and social dimensions.
The tour included different laboratories, among them those of robotics, microelectronic design, or virtual reality, as well as a stop at the center's maker space. In each area, the research staff had the opportunity to explain the lines of work currently being developed at the center, also responding to the delegation's questions and curiosities, interested in firsthand knowledge of both scientific advances and their possible social applications.
This first institutional visit highlights the role of CiTIUS (a center co-financed by the European Union through the Galicia Feder 2021-2027 Program) as a reference in artificial intelligence research in Galicia and one of the few specialized in this field in Spain, in line with the promotion of an ethical, sustainable, and trustworthy AI for society.
