Inside the lab: cutting-edge technology to meet the needs of the socioeconomic fabric
The technology demonstration day at CiTIUS returns, an event designed to generate value in organizations through high-impact scientific results,
11 demonstrators and 2 spin-offs
During the event, various technological demonstrators developed at the center will be presented, such as SAIA: animal medical image analysis, an interface that allows for the automated management and analysis of MRI data in rats. This system facilitates access to advanced techniques for researchers without programming knowledge, boosting biomedical research.
Another highlighted project is Chatty: language models for talking endlessly, which allows for synchronous conversations with various language models (LLMs) that operate simultaneously with different assistant roles.
The demonstrator EmoTrack will also be featured at this event, with its ability to detect and visualize emotions and stress levels in real-time through multimodal techniques adaptable to different contexts.
The Galician language features prominently through two key demonstrators: on one hand, Carballo, a multilingual model based on the Nós Project that enables translation, sentiment analysis, and creative text generation in Galician. On the other hand, an advanced system of machine translation with neural networks between Spanish, Galician, and English, whose open models compete at the highest level internationally.
In the environmental field, technologies such as the automated characterization of forest biomass using LiDAR data will be presented, an AI-based solution that improves efficiency in forest management, and a system for automatic identification of marine algae species through underwater image analysis, of special interest to the pharmaceutical and food industries.
In medicine, projects like BreastAnalyser stand out, a tool that facilitates the automatic analysis of immunohistochemical images for breast cancer diagnosis (https://gitlab.citius.gal/analyser/breastanalyser).
In the field of computer vision, two innovative demonstrators will be showcased: one on visual object detection on FPGA, which identifies people in real-time through programmable devices, and another on event detection using high-performance CMOS sensors, which detects changes in scenes at the pixel level.
Innovation in sustainable technologies will manifest through energHius, the new spin-off from CiTIUS (a research centre co-funded by the European Union through the Galicia ERDF Programme 2021–2027). Recently emerged from the center's research, this new technology-based company uses Nanostart® technology to capture small amounts of ambient energy, thus facilitating a new generation of ultra-small, battery-free devices for the Internet of Things (IoT).
Finally, the longest-standing CiTIUS spin-off, Situm, will once again be taking part in Inside the Lab through GAIA by Situm, a demonstrator framed within the IA360 project, offering an intelligent platform to provide real-time geospatial information tailored to workers and managers according to their specific needs.
As an artistic finale, the audience will also be able to interact with Essence, a digital installation that visualizes the human body as a dynamic energy field simulated by particles that react realistically according to physical parameters.
Registration
The event will be held in person at the center's facilities on Friday, July 4, 2025, with free hours between 10:00 and 14:00. Interested individuals must complete their registration on the official website of the event before July 3 at 12:00 PM (CEST).
