Santiago will host next week the SISTEDES 2022 conference, the largest scientific meeting in Spain to discuss about key IT fields

Specialists in Software Engineering and Databases, Science and Engineering of Services, and Programming and Languages, will meet from next Monday in Galicia’s capital to analyse the latest advances in their own areas of research.

Santiago de Compostela will host from next Monday the national conference of the Society of Software Engineering and Software Development Technologies (SISTEDES), an annual meeting focused on three major areas of computer science: Software Engineering and Databases (JISBD, the largest), Science and Engineering Services (web services, JCIS) and Programming and Languages (PROLE).

The conference, organised by the Computer Graphics and Data Engineering researchgroup at CiTIUS (Singular Research Center on Intelligent Technologies of the University of Santiago de Compostela), will bring together 240 researchers from the most important research groups of Spanish universities, as well as students and representatives of companies and the public sector in the city of Compostela. The symposium will kick off on Monday 5 September at the Hotel OCA Puerta del Camino at 9:00 am with the official opening ceremony, which will be attended by the president of the Provincial Council of A Coruña, Valentín González Formoso, and Antonio López, rector of the University of Santiago de Compostela.

Throughout SISTEDES 2022, a total of 154 scientific papers will be presented to the expert research community in these topics, which has responded with growing interest in the meeting, increasing participation with respect to other editions (both in number of registered attendees and proposals submitted).

The symposium includes three plenary lectures (one per area) by internationally renowned researchers: Robert Feldt (JISBD), Professor of Software Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg (Sweden); Uwe Zdun (JCIS), Professor of Software Architecture at the Faculty of Informatics, University of Vienna (Austria); and Manuel Hermenegildo (PROLE), Professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and Distinguished Researcher at the IMDEA-Software Institute.

The events also counts on the support of the sector, as demonstrated by the commitment of the technology companies Accenture, Plexus Tech and Televés -main sponsors of the conference - and the ICT Galician Cluster.

Three symposia in one

The SISTEDES Conference, which has been held in this format uninterruptedly since 2001, is a benchmark and a key meeting point at national level for the Spanish community working in the areas of Software Engineering and Software Development Technologies.

It is a space for sharing and scientific exchange, sponsored by the homonymous Society of Software Engineering and Software Development Technologies (SISTEDES); a non-profit association created with the main objective of contributing to the scientific and technological development of our country in the area of Software Engineering and Software Development Technologies, as well as promoting research, innovation and technology transfer between academia and business, for the advancement of these disciplines.

In the 2022 edition, the Organizing Committee will be formed by the researchers José M. Cotos Yañez, José R. Ríos Viqueira, Manuel Lama Penín and José A. Taboada González, with the collaboration of the rest of the members of the group and the support staff of CiTIUS. The event is also endorsed by the Consellería de Turismo de la Xunta de Galicia, the Diputación de A Coruña and the USC itself.
