The European Commission selects the HYBRIDS project to participate in a forum on digital democracy
The HYBRIDS Doctoral Network, coordinated by CiTIUS, receives an invitation to participate in a meeting promoted by the European executive, after being recognized as 'a model of good practices in the fight against disinformation.'
The European project HYBRIDS, led by CiTIUS at the University of Santiago de Compostela, has been selected by the European Commission to participate in the forum MSCA Lunchtime Conversation: Digital Democracy and Citizenship – What Skills are Needed in the Age of Fake News and Disinformation?, which will take place on the upcoming January 31st.
The invitation comes at the proposal of the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport, and Culture (DG EAC), after the community body identified HYBRIDS as an example of good practices and high relevance in the area of digital democracy. In this way, the Union's government highlights the project's innovative approach in the use of hybrid intelligence to address challenges such as disinformation and hate speech, thereby underscoring its contribution to strengthening active citizenship and social cohesion in Europe.
Responsible Citizenship in the Digital Age
The MSCA Lunchtime Conversation forum offers a platform for exchange among researchers, policymakers, and civil society representatives on key issues for Europe. In its previous edition, the event brought together 90 attendees, including 50 representatives from various directorates-general and executive agencies of the European Commission. This dialogue format aims to connect research with the design of public policies based on scientific evidence.
HYBRIDS' participation in this forum reinforces CiTIUS's role (a center co-financed by the European Union through the Galicia Feder Program 2021-2027) as a European benchmark in the application of intelligent technologies to solve social challenges. This recognition highlights the work led from Galicia and its contribution to the strengthening of democracies in the digital age.
HYBRIDS: an Alliance Between Artificial and Human Intelligence
HYBRIDS combines the precision of artificial intelligence with human reasoning to develop technological tools applied to the strengthening of digital democracy. Coordinated by CiTIUS researcher Pablo Gamallo, the project involves 14 institutions from 7 European countries and is funded by the European Union and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
