The European Commission selects the HYBRIDS project to participate in a forum on digital democracy

The HYBRIDS Doctoral Network, coordinated by CiTIUS, has been invited to participate in a European Commission event after being recognized as ‘a model of good practice in the fight against disinformation'.

The European HYBRIDS project, led by CiTIUS at the University of Santiago de Compostela, has been selected by the European Commission to participate in the MSCA Lunchtime Conversation: Digital democracy and citizenship – What skills are needed in the era of fake news and disinformation?, which will take place on January 31.

The invitation comes from the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport, and Culture (DG EAC) after HYBRIDS was identified as a model of good practice and high relevance in the field of digital democracy. This recognition highlights the project's innovative approach to using hybrid intelligence to tackle challenges such as disinformation and hate speech, underlining its contribution to strengthening active citizenship and social cohesion in Europe.

Responsible citizenship in the digital age

The MSCA Lunchtime Conversation forum provides a platform for exchange between researchers, policymakers, and civil society representatives on key issues for Europe. In its previous edition, the event brought together 90 attendees, including 50 representatives from various European Commission directorates and executive agencies. This dialogue format aims to connect research with evidence-based public policy design.

HYBRIDS’ participation in this forum strengthens CiTIUS’ role as a European leader in the application of intelligent technologies to address societal challenges. This recognition highlights the work led from Galicia and its contribution to strengthening democracies in the digital age.

HYBRIDS: An alliance between artificial and human intelligence

HYBRIDS combines the precision of artificial intelligence with human reasoning to develop technological tools applied to strengthening digital democracy. Coordinated by CiTIUS researcher Pablo Gamallo, the project involves 14 institutions from 7 European countries and is funded by the European Union and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
