José Ramón Pichel Campos

I am a computer engineer from the University of A Coruña (UDC), and I hold an International PhD in Computer Engineering from the EHU/UPV (University of the Basque Country), with a thesis on the automatic calculation of the distance between languages (https://addi.ehu.es/handle/10810/50329?locale-attribute=es), co-directed by Dr. Iñaki Alegria (IXA Taldea) and Dr. Paulo Gamalho (CITIUS).

My main scientific interest is natural language processing (NLP), specifically machine translation. I was one of the founders of imaxin|software in 1997, a company specialised in natural language processing, localisation and educational and training videogames. Since 2001, I have focused on the development of R&D projects in multilingual natural language processing in different domains, with the Opentrad project for machine translation in open source software, and CELTIC, for technology surveillance and NLP, where CITIUS (Dr. Juan Carlos Pichel and Dr. Paulo Gamalho Otero) also participated.

I am currently participating in the "Proxecto Nós" developed by CITIUS and ILG on Artificial Intelligence applied to Galician.
