Does artificial intelligence matter to us? Why, really? It seems that yes, and a lot. It matters to governments, philosophers, educators... It also matters to religions. "Antiqua et nova. Note on the relationship between artificial intelligence and human intelligence," published by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith and the Dicastery for Culture and Education of the Catholic Church, warns us about the danger of humans becoming "slaves to their own creation," recalling Stephen Hawking's well-known phrase: "To create artificial intelligence could be humanity's greatest historical achievement. But it could also be its last, if we do not manage to avoid its risks."

Throughout this podcast, a philosopher (Daniel Innerarity, professor of political philosophy and researcher), an archbishop (Monsignor Francisco José Prieto, archbishop of Santiago de Compostela), and a computer scientist (Senén Barro, scientific director of CiTIUS) respond to the question that gives the episode its title, but they also debate what should concern us most if we design or misuse AI—technological unemployment, cognitive delegation, disinformation, weakening of democracy, inequalities, and autonomous weapons—and the possibility that machines may come to possess consciousness or an intelligence resembling our own.
