Call for the affiliation of research staff to CiTIUS

CiTIUS opens its annual call aimed at new senior researchers affiliations

Preamble

The Singular Research Center in Intelligent Technologies (CiTIUS, citius.gal) was created by the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) within the framework of the Network of Singular Research Centers (CCSSI), which constitute the main axis of the Campus Vida project (International Excellence Campus).

Established in 2010 and inaugurated in September 2012, CiTIUS was created with the aim of becoming a reference research center, distinguished by the excellence and impact of its research and its commitment to societal demands. The objective of CiTIUS is to carry out multidisciplinary and cutting-edge research in the field of Intelligent Technologies. CiTIUS also has a recruitment and training program aimed at incorporating researchers capable of leading lines of scientific excellence and socioeconomic impact in the future.

To achieve these objectives, CiTIUS has a self-demanding organizational structure based on four fundamental organizational requirements: (1) competitive selection of researchers by an External Scientific Committee (CCE); (2) formal affiliation of selected researchers based on criteria and guidelines for affiliation and permanence based on continuous evaluation of their activities conducted by the CCE; (3) scientific programming formulated based on measurable strategic planning within the framework of a Program Contract linked to the achievement of objectives; (4) executive scientific leadership that integrates the capabilities of the research staff at the center and ensures the progress of programs.

The center currently has 30 affiliated researchers, who are organized around the nine scientific areas that the center currently encompasses. The CiTIUS Management considers it appropriate to identify a limited number of new affiliated researchers who can strengthen the scientific capabilities of the center.

It is noteworthy that the affiliated research staff is key to the external image of the center and its scientific success and, therefore, is subject to continuous and rigorous evaluation of their scientific results. This evaluation may have consequences for their future continuity as affiliated research staff at the center.

Based on these premises, we launch this Call for applications for affiliation with CiTIUS.

Eligible candidates

This call for affiliation applications is open to teaching and research staff who meet the following requirements:

  • Teaching and research staff (PDI) with stable relationships and research activity with USC (full professors and university tenured professors, permanent faculty staff, associate professors, distinguished professors, and emeritus professors). In the case of associate professors, distinguished professors, and emeritus professors, their affiliation will be established by the validity of their contractual relationship with the entity.
  • Research staff from other institutions affiliated with USC through institutional agreements that recognize their formal relationship with the Institute (for example, Oportunius Program with GAIN, research staff affiliated with CSIC).
  • Postdoctoral research staff from competitive HR calls with a stabilization commitment to USC (for example, Ramón y Cajal Contracts). Their period of affiliation will be established by the validity of their contractual relationship with the entity.

Candidates must demonstrate a high level of publications related to the main thematic areas of CiTIUS and show a proven ability to attract external financial resources.

In the case of candidates who are currently collaborating with a CiTIUS research team, they must indicate relevant individual contributions that justify their application for affiliation.

As for the rest of the applicants, our priority is to incorporate new research staff with complementary scientific experience, which will help strengthen the capabilities of the center and the coherence of our scientific programs. This complementarity and the previous experience of the candidate in collaborative research projects related to the main thematic areas of CiTIUS should be highlighted in the application.

Applications from research staff with an existing commitment to another research center/institute, with current permanence exceeding one year, will not be accepted.

Submission of affiliation applications

The deadline for submitting applications is July 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM (CET). The application must be sent to citius@usc.es in .pdf format, using the attached form: download application.

Selection process

The evaluation and selection process will be carried out by the External Scientific Committee of CiTIUS.

The formal appointment of the selected candidates as affiliated research staff will be approved by the Governing Committee of CiTIUS, through the signing of a formal commitment to the strategic objectives and organizational policies of the center.
