PhD position in Digital Twins for optimization and prediction of sustainability indicators to join the European project SOSFood

We seek an Engineer in Computer Science or related disciplines to join our team at CiTIUS in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. The candidate will be enrolled in the doctoral program in Information Technologies at USC to develop a PhD thesis related with the Horizon Europe project “Sustainability Optimization for Secure Food Systems (SOSFood)”, which aims to design, develop and validate data-driven AI-based tools to transform the food system to be more productive, inclusive, sustainable and resilient.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and implementation of edge-based digital twin architecture.
  • Automation of synchronization between physical and virtual spaces.
  • Continuous data integration and feedback for model evolution.
  • Sustainability assessment of AI-based services through digital twin integration.
  • Collaboration with companies and multidisciplinary teams involved in the project SOSFood, facilitating data sharing and knowledge exchange to enhance efficiency and sustainability in the food production network.
  • Documentation of technical progress and experimental results, contributing to scientific publications in the areas of digital twins, process optimization, and sustainability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor and Master (300 ECTS) in Computer Science or related disciplines.
  • Knowledge on digital twin-based modeling.
  • Good academic record.
  • Great motivation for scientific work.
  • Excellent organizational, communications and teamwork skills
  • English (level B2 or equivalent).

Position details

  • Type of contract: Predoctoral Researcher in Training.
  • Contract period: 01/03/2025 – 31/12/2027 (34 months full-time contract).
  • Salary according to Spanish pay scale for Predoctoral Researcher in Training (~€ 18.5k/yr. Additional complements of up to 40% are possible depending on achievement of objectives).
  • Location: Santiago de Compostela (A Coruña, Spain).
