LiDAR-UAV: LiDAR efficient processing for UAVs applications

The main objective of this project is the development of software solutions based on the analysis of LiDAR data to solve two specific problems for Babcock within the framework of the Civil UAVs Initiative (CUI).


The project objectives are:

  • Develop a solution for the detection of asphalted public roads, characterixing some of its most relevant properties: width, slope, presence of vegetation and nearby buildings, etc.
  • Develop a software for the automatic detection of helicopter landing zones, based on the analysis of LiDAR data.
  • Develop solutions efficient computationally, based on the parallelization over manycore systems, with the aim of optimizing the execution time of the previous problems.
